The Community Payback Lads 2016

It's impossible for our Stone in Bloom volunteers to cover all the areas in Stone when we go out litter picking and so we rely heavily on the Community Payback lads. Once again they've done a brilliant job all around the Stone Industrial Park, Tilling Drive, Beacon Rise and the Severn Trent pumping station. Big thanks to them and their leader Geoff Moreby who work very hard on Sundays in Stone. Geoff and the gang can be contacted if you have a problem you would like help with and our group will be happy to pass on their contact details to you.

A new Holly Tree in 2016 For Stonefield Square

Stone in Bloom volunteers have been busy bees over the last few months. The River Trent Bridge was cleared of weeds and litter and now looks immaculate. Stonefield Square was dug over and weeded and the daffodil bulbs we planted last year have already started to pop up.  The very old and beautiful holly tree in the square massacred by over enthusiastic workmen is shooting from the bottom but looks very sad. The group took full advantage of Geoff Collier’s absence at the last meeting when we all decided to put forward his name to sponsor the replacement of the holly ...

A Gruelling Task (extract from the Stone & Eccleshall Gazette)

Seeing many friends and acquaintances over the festive season that I haven’t seen for a long time, it seems a number of them have retired. The common theme was that they were all looking forward to slowing down, more holidays and wanting to volunteer for one of the many community groups in Stone.  One couple said they always felt guilty when they saw the Stone in Bloom gang working so hard in all weathers  and they listened patiently while I  said exactly what volunteering with us would mean and I explained very strongly that although we have a number of councillors ...

Greener Streets Better Lives 2015/ Stone 5th Cubs and Children

Greener Streets Better lives “Green Streets Better Lives” is the new campaign decided upon by the Royal Horticultural Society for In Bloom 2015. Its aim is to transform 6,000 grey spaces into planted up beautiful spaces for people to enjoy. Grey spaces are becoming more common in the UK as local authority funding is cut, shops close down and the areas surrounding them become overgrown and litter strewn.  We’re lucky in Stone that we have very few problem areas, but the Stone in Bloom group have identified a small patch in and around the town and will be concent...

Christmas /a new chairman/ Goodbye to Rob and thank you!

For the very first time in the history of Stone in Bloom members elected a female chairman ( yes we still say chair MAN!) Jill Hood took over the reigns from Rob Kenney who had served his two years working very hard for the town and the members of Stone in Bloom. A few grey hairs have been spotted but this can only make Rob look distinguished and he's now definitely looking more relaxed after netting yet another gold award for our town making it the 8th gold in a row given to us by the RHS's Heart of England in Bloom judges! Stone in Bloom’s working group of volunte...
